Getting a baby ready for sleep can feel like a guessing game when the weather changes from warm afternoons to cooler nights. The goal is simple: keep your baby comfortable without overheating. Here is a practical guide for Pakistani parents.
Start with the room, not the season
Check how the room actually feels at bedtime. A fan, air conditioner, heater, or open window can make the nursery feel very different from the weather outside. Choose breathable layers you can add or remove as needed.
Choose simple, comfortable sleepwear
A soft cotton bodysuit or sleepsuit is a useful starting point. In warmer rooms, a light layer may be enough. On cooler nights, add a suitable wearable sleep sack rather than loose blankets. Make sure clothing fits well around the neck and does not cover your baby's face.
Check for comfort
Feel the back of your baby’s neck or chest to see whether they seem too warm or cool. Sweating, flushed skin, or a hot chest can be signs to remove a layer. Cool hands and feet alone do not always mean your baby is cold.
Keep the sleep space clear
Place your baby on their back on a firm, flat sleep surface. Keep pillows, quilts, stuffed toys, and loose bedding out of the sleep area. Avoid hats for indoor sleep unless your healthcare professional advises otherwise.
A quick bedtime checklist
- Check the room temperature and airflow.
- Pick breathable, well-fitting sleepwear.
- Use a wearable sleep sack if an extra layer is needed.
- Check your baby’s neck or chest after settling them.
- Keep the sleep space free of loose items.
Every baby and every home is different. Adjust layers to your baby’s comfort, and ask your pediatrician if you have concerns about temperature or safe sleep.
